BGC South East (formerly Boys and Girls Club of Kingston & Area) has been providing high-quality programs to children, youth, and families for over 30 years. We are one of the largest Boys and Girls Clubs in Canada, in terms of young people served, quality of infrastructure and innovative programs.
Last year, we served more than 6,200 children and youth through a wide range of programs. We have a team of over 200 staff, 65% of whom are youth themselves. Many started in our programs as children and have continued as staff, contributing their lived experience and creating strong, supportive relationships with the young people we serve. We host over 100 volunteers annually with the majority as high-school and post-secondary students that support programming with over 5,000 combined hours per year.
With the name change into BGC South East in 2021, we adopted a commitment to expand programming to communities around Kingston, along the Brockville to Belleville corridor, based on identified needs. We currently deliver programs at 5 sites in Kingston, and have expanded programs into Loyalist, Napanee, Harrowsmith, and Joyceville.
Our programs include:
- New childcare programs serving 400 children.
- STEM programs in a newly launched 9,000 square feet STEM & Robotics Centre, located at the West End Community Centre (1300 Bath Road, Kingston).
- After-school, evening, weekend, PA days, holiday camps, summer camps, and specialized programs (education, technology/coding, sports leagues, etc.).
- We ensure that our programs are accessible to all children and youth, through provided transportation options and subsidized fees.
- Programs generate lifelong positive results in children’s emotional and physical well-being, learning engagement, and community connectedness.
We eliminate barriers of access through:
- Subsidies for low income families
- Sites in high priority neighborhoods
- Provided transportation
- Healthy snack and meals
- Provided program equipment
