Canadian Centre for Victims of torture

Location: Scarborough,
Ontario

I’m writing on behalf of the Canadian Centre for Victims of Torture(CCVT), a non-profit charitable organization dedicated to meeting the needs of survivors of torture and/or war and their families. CCVT assists with the legal, medical, and social care needs specified to our clients, thereby assisting their integration with Canadian society. We continue to provide on-going community support through our 200-plus group of caring volunteers who befriend, tutor, and support many individuals who are struggling to overcome the lasting effects of torture. Since its inception in 1977. CCVT has responded to the needs of more than 30,000 survivors from over 100 countries.

As you can imagine, the holiday season can be a difficult time for many of our clients. having fled persecution and torture, many are cut off from their family, friends, and social networks. At the same time our clients are dealing with the consequences of  their experiences of torture, they often face financial and professional hardships as they begin their lives again in a new country. as a means of alleviating some of the pain and to help rebuild a sense of community, we will hold our annual Holiday celebration on Sunday December14, 2025. at our holiday party, we will be serving lunch, refreshments, as well as providing gifts for the children. we anticipate approximately 200-250 clients will attend this year’s party. we are approaching you this year to request donation of toys for kids or kits( especially warming kits and feminine/ hygiene kits) that can be distributed among clients in need. your generous contribution will mean so much for one of the most vulnerable community. In return, we would acknowledge your generous donation during the festivity as well as in our annual report.

thank you for your kind consideration of this request. if you have any question or require any further information, please do not hesitate to contact me or our Executive Director, Mulugeta Abai, at 416-363-1066
