Looking to connect and learn more about this program; specifically, to help us meet the needs for our Empower Pack. Each year, we deliver over 200 packs across Canada.
Navigating your child’s cancer diagnosis isn’t easy. That’s why we’ve put together the EmPower Pack. Each personalized care package is uniquely assembled to bring joy, educational support, and much-needed comfort to newly diagnosed children across Canada.
Packs include items specifically tailored to each child’s age, diagnosis and personal interests — ensuring they receive the most relevant and comforting items during this incredibly challenging time.
Goals of the EmPower Pack Program:
- Help to meet the emotional, mental and physical needs of children with cancer.
- Connect children to networks of support through tools for interaction and expression.
- Reduce the financial burden on families during this challenging time.
What’s in an EmPower Pack?
- Technology: A tablet keeps children connected to family, friends and school, so they feel less alone.
- Comfort Items: Soft knitted hats help them cope with hair loss, provide warmth and boost confidence. Plush toys provide comfort during hospital visits and at night. Picture books explain cancer to children, why they might miss school, and help them share their journey with friends and family.
- Activities: A journal enables children to express feelings, remember special moments, and reflect on challenging days. A colouring book helps to relieve stress and relax, promoting better sleep and reducing anxiety and depression.
Each EmPower Pack is thoughtfully curated to include age-appropriate items that support children through their cancer journey. This could mean technology to keep them connected to family, friends, and school, or comforting items like soft hats and plush toys to provide warmth and reassurance.
There may also be picture books to help explain their condition, and activities such as journals and coloring books to help them express their feelings, relieve stress, and find moments of joy and relaxation.
These items are carefully selected to meet the diverse needs of children at different ages and stages of their treatment and recovery.
