Communities In Schools (CIS) is a national nonprofit organization that works directly inside schools to help students stay in school and succeed in life. CIS places staff on campuses to connect students with support services like counseling, mentoring, food, clothing, and academic help. The goal is to remove barriers to learning and help students improve attendance, behavior, and grades.
The school I am placed in is called Clements Middle School in Newton County (Covington, GA). Clements is a title one school which means a lot of their students live in low-income households. I have had the pleasure of serving at Clements for the past four years. In these four years I have got to meet so many wonderful students and their families and hear their stories and help them along the way with overcoming barriers that might keep them from succeeding in life. Clements is a title one school which means a lot of her students live in low-income households. When it comes to basic hygiene, and items like that, a lot of people don’t realize when students do not have these items they will either not come to school or if they are in class they are focused on what they were lacking that day and cannot fully be present in the classroom.
These kits would mean the world to my students and their families.
