We are a grassroots charity serving the homeless in the GTA and Southwestern Ontario. We hold two events annually: Project Winter Survival in January and Project Water in June.
At Project Winter Survival, we pack 3,000 kits to be distributed to the homeless through social agencies. Each kit contains numerous hygiene items (soap, shampoo & conditioner, lotion, brushes, lip balm, toothpaste & toothbrushes, razors & shaving cream, deodorant, a washcloth/towel, etc.), a scarf or neckwarmer, toque, gloves, socks, activity book, notepad and pen, healthy food snack, bottled water and a sleeping bag.
At Project Water, we distribute 300,000+ bottles of water to the same agencies who will distribute them on the street throughout the summer. We also pack 3,000 kits containing a hygiene kit as described above, reusable water bottle, ball cap, sunscreen, sunglasses, notepads & pens and any other items we can secure.
Our kit items are purchased with monies donated by corporate sponsors who send employee volunteers to pack the kits and by individual donors. We also try to have a significant amount of our items donated.
Having donors participate through Kits for a Cause to pack hygiene kits or to pack summer kits is extremely helpful to us and we have been fortunate to be the beneficiaries of hygiene kits from many generous companies.
Homelessness is such a significant issue for our cities and although we are not solving the issue, we are making an impact on ensuring that those who find themselves homeless can at least have some of the basic necessities for survival provided to them.
