The Haitian American Caucus-US, Inc. (HAC-US) is a global community development nonprofit whose mission is to provide Haitian communities worldwide with access to information and resources to foster self-development and success through advocacy, workshops, and creative programming.
Our goal is to improve the reputation and visibility of minorities by breaking the barriers we face while living in America. We are dedicated to educating our community by providing them with essential tools to ensure success in their personal and professional lives and engaging in collective action to empower the youth in the struggle for social and economic justice.
HAC Workforce Development Department
HAC Workforce Development’s mission is to help good people find good jobs. We help individuals in the criminal justice community rebuild their lives through training and empowerment to help them find meaningful and long-term employment opportunities. Our number one goal is to increase the value of our community by creating new jobs. Partnering with the construction and real estate sectors, we will give our community access to trades and skills that will change their lives forever.
HAC Immigration Resources & Recovery Center
HAC and our team of pro-bono attorneys work with over 500 volunteers to provide person-to-person support to hundreds of immigrants facing detention and deportation. This includes staffing a pro se legal clinic; maintaining a bond fund to free immigrants being held in private, for-profit, overcrowded detention centers; and expanding its community-based, citywide “Haitians Are Safe in NYC” program to organize safe spaces for immigrants at more than 100 churches, and countless businesses and homes.
HAC Advocacy & Policy Department
HAC’s Advocacy & Policy Department aims to achieve a fairer and more just society that values the contributions of all Haitian Americans and Haitian immigrants and extends opportunities to all. Our advocacy department protects the quality of life for all people of color living in the United States, promotes full civic participation, fosters their leadership, and provides a unified voice and vehicle for collective action for all HAC members and diverse immigrant communities.
HAC English As A Second Language (ESL) Program
Our ESL Program provides free English classes for individuals interested in learning the language. Students receive social services and legal referral information about U.S. citizenship and other immigration services. Assistance includes employability skills through job training and career preparation, computer classes, advanced college-level English development, financial literacy development, and a referral to our HAC Workforce Development Programs. Morning and afternoon classes are offered Monday through Thursday at Pilgrim Wesleyan Church in the East Flatbush section of Brooklyn.
