Health Sciences Centre

Location: Winnipeg ,
Manitoba

HSC Winnipeg exists to provide the best possible hospital experience for patients and families and a positive working and learning environment for staff, volunteers and future healthcare providers. We provide acute hospital (tertiary and other) and community health services to Manitobans and others. this includes providing specialty, subspecialty, and sophisticated intensive care, in a learning environment. Our vision is Patients First: Patients are at the center of everything we do. we see out work through patients’ eyes, and do what is right, not necessarily what is easiest. We involve patients in their care, listening and learning in everything we can, and sharing what we know. Together, we provide the very best possible hospital experience for the people we serve.

HSC plays a special role in providing primary care to the community surrounding the hospital and in the core area of Winnipeg, as well as to Indigenous peoples across Manitoba, northwestern Ontario, and Nunavut. Our Clothing Depot is meant to help our patients that are in need. Some patients arrive at our hospital and are lacking in the basic necessities. We are dependent on donations, and we compete with other non-profit in the area who provide the same services; for example, the homeless and psychiatric population.

We are an interdisciplinary team of over 8,000 staff and volunteers. The Volunteer Services department runs the Clothing Depot, which is looked after by supported volunteers and their staff (individuals with developmental disabilities) providing those patients that do not have access to the basic necessities to get them through their hospital stay, and/or to get them home.
