The Ontario Aboriginal HIV/AIDS Strategy
(Oahas) is Ontario’s only Indigenous-led,
provincial AIDS Service Organization
(ASO). Since 1995, Oahas has provided
culturally grounded programs and services for Indigenous people living with, affected by,
or at increased risk of HIV, hepatitis C (HCV), and other sexually transmitted and blood
borne infections (STBBIs).
Oahas recognizes that wellness extends beyond physical health and supports community
members through a holistic circle of care that addresses immediate needs while fostering
long-term wellness and self-determination guided by Indigenous harm reduction
principles.
Programs and services include:
• Harm reduction supplies and safer-use kits
• Safer sex education and supplies
• HIV, hepatitis C, and STBBI prevention education
• Pre- and post-test counselling, support, and referrals
• Service navigation for testing, treatment, PrEP, PEP, and healthcare appointments
• Cultural programming, traditional medicines, and access to Elders and Knowledge
Keepers
• Outreach and community-based wellness supports
• Education and training for Indigenous communities and service providers
