The Tri-County Women’s Centre was established in 2002
We are a feminist, community-based, anti-racist service that is open to all women and adolescent girls.
We believe that women’s economic and social independence is central to women’s equality.
We work with all people to achieve an equitable and equal world for women and their families.
We respond to the direct needs of women and their families in Digby, Shelburne, and Yarmouth Counties.
WOMEN OF ALL AGES COME TO OUR CENTRE TO:
- Access support counseling
- Access trauma-specific therapeutic counselling for sexualized violence trauma
- Access navigation and support for victims and survivors of sexualized violence
- Get information and referrals to other agencies or services – If you do not know where to go for help, we can assist with suggesting what organization(s) you can turn to.
- Have someone go to an appointment for support and/or to advocate for them – We will go to an appointment or meeting with you for support, and we can speak on your behalf. We can accompany you to legal appointments, medical exams/consultations, Court, Child Welfare, Social Assistance, as well as meetings at the Provincial Building.
- Attend a program – All of our programs are developed by women and for women based on the needs and wants of the community.
- Get support to go back to work or school – This includes assistance in setting educational, career, and/or life goals.
- Get a cup of tea or coffee and chat – The centre offers a safe and warming environment for women to come and take a break. Come on in, relax, and know that you have a place to go if you want or need someone to talk to.
