Founded in 1975, Scadding Court Community Centre (SCCC), located at Dundas and Bathurst, is a charitable non-profit multi-faceted, community-based organization organization known for high quality social and recreational programming, as well as for progressive community and social development activities. Our programming supports local residents within the centre’s downtown neighbourhood of Kensington-Chinatown, in particular, our services are geared toward under-serviced, culturally and racially diverse groups such as newcomers, low-income women, children and families, at-risk youth, people with developmental and/or physical disabilities, and seniors.
SCCC’s philosophy is that all of its work must be informed by and meet the needs of individuals, promote community development and health, and actively engage the community in addressing relevant systemic issues (i.e. promote positive social change). This multi-level approach to program planning and delivery is a unique and effective approach to community services. SCCC is known for its innovation and the impact of its work – both local and systemic.
SCCC’s mandate:
To support and foster the well-being of individuals, families and community groups by providing and encouraging local and international opportunities for recreation, education, community participation and social interaction.
Over 500 people visit SCCC daily to attend programs, socialize or to simply be in a safe and welcoming space. This includes a high proportion of children, youth and families.
